Happy New Year

Very quiet on the Kennel front. The whelping pen is now complete again and ready for Mid January. Lizzie (Collision Risk) is very big at the moment and looks like she has a few pups on board. The hot weather is uncomfortable for her but she still likes to let you know that she has a bark!!
Both Sam and Mo are in work and its just difficult getting them a C1 at Addington.

Hope you all had a good xmas and the kennel wish everybody a          HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR

Good day at the races!

Firstly it was great to see Tom (Yeboah) finish 3rd in the Group 2 Dash For Cash final at Wanganui. He came out well but just not quite catch the flying Subic Bay to the bend where if he had he might have gave it a nudge. Fair play to the winner with its outstanding time of 17.20! Tom finished well but was not going to catch the winner. Nice breeders bonus of $750 coming our way.

In the afternoon Sam (Feral Coaster) won his maiden at Addington in the time of 17.60 the fastest of the 3 maiden races. Great to see the dog comeback from the stopper pad injury and if Jacqui had her way he would have been sitting on the sofa by now. This was his 2nd race back since the injury in January!

Mo (Feral Helen) has been galloped well and is showing no sign of the toe injury that has kept her sidelined.

Kennel News

Looks like Lizzie (Collison Risk) is in pup either that or I am feeding her too much!! Next week we will get her scanned just to confirm this.

Tom (Yeboah) won his heat of the LIQUORLAND WANGANUI DASH FOR CASH FINAL - C5F - 305M
$13,000.00 Group 2
and now qualifies for the final on friday and he has drawn trap 2.

Sam (Feral Coaster) ran 5th on his come back race and trialled nicely last week at Addington.

Mo (Feral Helen) has had 2 gallops and it looks like the injury is fine now because there has been no swelling in her foot.

Tom (Yeboah) Manakau

Well Tom (Yeboah) missed his break in the Galaxy final to finish 6th. Gutted really but proud just to have a runner in a Cat A. Today Sunday he was back at Manakau in a C5 against top class Northern sprinters. Whats he do ? Blasts out and wins by 8 Lengths in the fastest of the day 18.21.

Galaxy 6th

Tom (Yeboah) started favourite for the final of the Galaxy Sprint ($30,000)! Unfortunately he blew the start and never really got in the race. Started to make a move but the One moved off the rails and the 4 then bumped him. Fair play to the winner he flew the lids and posted a 17.08. Obviously disappointed but also proud just to have bred a dog that has the ability to compete at the top.
Kennel news.
Sam (Feral Coaster)had another gallop this morning and his Stopper pad seems to have held up to the gallop...fingers crossed!!

More bad news!

Have retired Ben (Feral Poutini) he just seems to be struggling on the bends due to a long term toe injury.
Mo(Feral Helen) is back in the kennel but is on the easy list with a front sesamoid injury, treatment includes ultra sound for a few days at least. Just returned Minnie (Feral Hoki) from injury and now she has a back foot sesamoid injury that does not look good. She ran a great trial today but pulled up lame and the swelling did not take long to appear! She is very sorry for herself and not her lively self.

On the good news side Tom (Yeboah))has qualified for the Galaxy Semis on Thursday night after finishing 2nd in his heat to a very fast 16.96 winner!

Tough times

Had a few runners over the last two weeks and both Feral Hoki and Feral Poutini have finished at the rear. Ben (Feral Poutini) got dragged down from behind and had some cuts on his back tendon area plus to cap this he has strained his right gracillis muscle and will be on the easy list for a while. Minnie (Feral Hoki) didnt really show last week and I though it was just a bad run. Ran today and finished last and she is also lame in the gracillis muscle and the groin area and will be off for a while!  Mo was running in to a place at Waikato on Thursday but was knocked out of it coming off the home bend. She was just coming home nicely when she took the knock from the 8 dog!
Well one thing is that it can only get better! Hopefully!!!!

Updates

No winners this week for the Litter, a couple of 3rds a 5th and today Mo found more trouble and trailed the field home. Tom (Yeboah) ran 3rd and qualified for the racing series sprint at Manakau on Sunday.
Picked up a lodger for a week or so a dog named Fancy Kiwi. He is a happy dog and quickly settled in to his new surroundings. He is off up on to the North Island in the near future.

Not always plain sailing!!

Mo (Feral Helen) has had a bad run of luck and this is the stipes report from todays 7th at Manakau!

LENNY MAC (8) stumbled leaving the boxes losing ground. KIMETTO (1) and NO PARKING (2) made brief contact leaving the boxes. TRINITY FLIGHT (6) shifted in soon after the start making contact with the hindquarters of FERAL HELEN (4) for several strides. Entering the first turn KIMETTO and NO PARKING came together with KIMETTO contacting the running rail with these runners both unbalanced with NO PARKING shifting out hampering FERAL HELEN and VICARIOUSLY (7) who were both taken very wide losing ground. At the same time BIGTIME MOOLA (3) and AGENT SCHRADER (5) came together with both runners momentarily unbalanced. Rounding the bend BIGTIME MOOLA lost ground inconveniencing LENNY MAC. Soon after TRINITY FLIGHT shifted out off the heels of AGENT SCHRADER and into the line of LENNY MAC who made solid contact with this runner with TRINITY FLIGHT falling as a result. Rounding the final bend LENNY MAC angled in abruptly into the line of FERAL HELEN who was badly hampered losing ground. TRINITY FLIGHT regained its footing to finish some distance from the field with a post race veterinary examination revealing no abnormality. KIMETTO was examined by the veterinarian following this event with no abnormality detected.

Minne (Feral Hoki) ran 5th at Addington on Friday and she seems a little reluctant to mix it with the other dogs, hopefully the more runs she gets she will overcome this!

Tom ( Yebaoh) missed it today and ran well to claim a 3rd at Manakau.

Zac (Lots of Beersies) ran a good 2nd at Southland on Tuesday another good show from him.

Kennel news is Ben is coming on well but Sam is still feeling his stopper pad cut.

News

Mo (Feral Helen) got knocked over at Manakau last week but seems to be OK. Hopefully wont be too affected by the tumble. Tom (Yeboah)won top heat sprint at Manakau today in 18.18 only 2 Lengths off the track record and the going was not the best. The next quickest time was 18.52!

At the kennels both Minnie and Ben are working well but Sam has split his scar tissue again and I will leave him for a while just walking him. If it goes again then he will be retired.

Mo at Manakau

Great to see Mo (Feral Helen ) Trap 7 run a good third at Manakau today.

Pleased with her run for her new trainers James and Alysha.

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

Decided to sponsor a race.

Thursday 13th Aug @ Addington

RACE 2 - 05:04 P.M. - FERAL GREYHOUND KENNELS DASH - C3 - 295M

$1,700.00 ($1,020.00, $425.00, $255.00) - 2ND LEG TAB DOUBLE; 2ND LEG TAB TREBLE; 1ST LEG TAB

Race 2 FERAL GREYHOUND KENNELS DASH Starts 17:04

Replay (3) Impersonator (2) Rick's Terra (5)
Facing a sharp rise in quality for this but has shown enough to compete. Hitting the line well in recent events and he needs looked at again here. He hasn't been that far away lately and now drops another level for this.
Qla 3,2 Tfa 3x2x5x6

Great to see Ray Casey and Rick's Terra take out this race because Ray has helped me out taking my dogs to the races and letting me use his gallop on numerous occasions. Well done Ray

Yeboah again!

Yeboah won his Top grade C5 at Manakau yesterday. He gave little Bright Star a head start and passed her on the bend to win going away in a time of 18.42. This takes his record to 21 starts and 15 wins with over $16,000 in prize money!!

Wairo Dee Jay ......get in

BOOM !  Was great to see Wairo Dee Jay start with a win for James and Alysha and new owner Tony Potts. Great result and even better with is fixed odds of $12!!

Today I have free galloped both Minnie and Sam separately. Minnie had the fun of coursing a Hare for a few seconds when it decided to appear as she was running in its direction!!

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

First post for a while!

Not been on the blog for 4 weeks because we have been to the UK and Europe for a break. We were lucky in that our House sitters had great knowledge of greyhounds and all the hounds were in great condition when we arrived back. They even gallop Minnie for us which was an absolute bonus.

Mo ( Feral Helen) ha now gone to the North Island to be trained by Alysha Steele and James Black. I am very hopeful that she will enjoy the change of scenery. Also at the same kennel is Wairo Dee Jay who has been bought by Tony Potts from the Conner Kennel in Southland.

Sam ( Feral Coaster ) has been on the easy list and I have just started working him again to see if the stopper pad holds up. If it does not he will be retired from racing which is massive shame. Ben ( Feral Poutini ) has been fostered out whilst we were away and looks in great Nick. He will be worked again but any signs of lameness and I will call it a day and look for a home for him. Apparently he was a superb house dog who became cat friendly with a bit of training!!

Yeboah Out of the Money !

No need to say too much just read the stewards report....reckon the steward had bet him!!

YEBOAH box 3 dwelt at the start being almost last away, he improved rapidly racing in to the first bend YEBOAH was checked as LOOKS ALL GOOD crossed to the rail in being the leading dog ,YEBOAH lost momentum for astride or two ,soon after he was hampered again as CALAMITY FREE ran out over the heels of LOOKA ALL GOOD in to the path of TONGARIRO who was force to check going in on to the heels of YEBOAH both runners lost a length or two. YEBOAH ran on for 4th placing at the line.

Hopefully he can turn the tables next time out but well done to the winner Bright Star who was winning her 67th race..great record.

Big Decision.

Have decided to move Mo ( Feral Helen) and Sam ( Feral Coaster) up to the North Island with James Black and Alysha Steele. I am sure they can get the best out of the two especially Sam who seems to going the right way regarding his Stopper Tendon Injury. Mo was checked out on Sunday and had a Back and Hip injury so hopefully we will see a different dog when she hits the track.
Good Luck James and Alysha.

Minnie ( Feral Hoki) is staying here at the Kennels and she has been working well in the last two weeks. She seems to be over her niggles so lets hope she gets selected in the next Maiden at Addington.

Yeboah strikes again!

Now 13 from 15! Pretty stoked with that.

News

Yeboah ( Tom ) wins his 12th race out of his 14 starts. He has now progressed in to C5 Open class. Great to see him work hard to get around trap 3 to win on the run home.
Entries for next week are Feral Helen ( Mo ) at Addington on Tuesday race 4 Trap 7. Have nominated two for Friday and hopefully Feral Hoki ( Minnie) will get a start.
Today Sunday both Minnie and Sam were given a straight 250 m gallop.
Good luck to Zac and Pat who run at Otago on Tuesday.

Updates

Mo ( Feral Helen) ran a 3rd at Addington on Tuesday. She missed her break and then ran on strongly to finish about 2L off the winner. Hopefully she will trap well soon and show us the potential she has!
Minnie and Sam are still being free galloped with Minnie showing that she enjoys the freedom of the paddock. Ben is also being free galloped but he is the laziest dog I have trained and very rarely gets in to a gallop!!
Yeboah, Melman and Lots of Beersies are all entered to run  this week or next so will be watching Trackside to see their progress.
The cold evenings and Frosts that have appeared in Oxford means that all the dogs are rugged up well to keep themselves warm!!

Kennel News

Not a bad day for the Collison Risk (Lizzie)litter Lots of Beersies (Zac) wins at Otago for Marek Dunne and his Shake and Bake syndicate and Feral Helen (Mo) gets a 2nd at Addington.

Both Minnie and Sam are back in work and have been given several free gallops in the big paddock. Minnie took a tumble when Sam clipped her but got up fine.

Mo (Feral Helen) runs 2nd!

Mo ran a 2L 2nd at Addington today. Fairly well away she showed plenty of determination to get to the front but just took a bump when in a great position. No excuses but pleased with the effort she showed in running.

Ben ( Feral Poutini) receives a 10 day stand down.

Poor old Ben (Feral Poutini) actually broke well from trap 8 and ran well (3rd) in to the bend then was dragged down by the 1 dog. From there on he was back tracking and was vetted. An old toe injury has flared up a little so he will be on the easy list for a few days.

Racing into the bend FERAL POUTINI (8) came down hampering the racing room of CULVIE GODFATHER (5) which lost ground and also LUCAS SCOTT (4) which was slightly inconvenienced FERAL POUTINI lost momentum and its chance when dragged down by WHAT A PARTY (1) rounding the bend this in turn caused ANOTHER KEY to check of the heels of FERAL POUTINI. CULVIE GODFATHER and SACAJAWEA (6) came together rounding the bend and both dogs ran wide. SACAJAWEA and FERAL POUTINI were both referred to the vet for assessment.

Thursday, May 7, 2015

Good day for the Kennel.

Great to see Yeboah (Tom) win his 9th race out of his 10 starts. Now in C3 grade he is going through the grades nicely! Melman (Ted) came 3rd and earned another cheque.
Great to see Smash Rumour (Charlie) win again after a quiet spell and now he has taken over $30,000 in prize money helping Malcolms retirement fund!!
Friday sees Feral Poutini (Ben) have his 2nd start but just hoping for a safe run because he is very much a novice at the racing game!

Thursday, April 30, 2015

Pretty stoked!

Yeboah (Tom) has equalled the Class 2 at Manakau tonight. He even missed the kick a bit but charged through them to lead at the first bend and win going away. Well done to Steve Clark and of course the lucky owner Tony!!
Lizzie has produced a quick one there!

Minnie (Feral Hoki) Finishes last!

Gutted with the run of Minnie. Hard to see from the track but I noticed she made a fair break and was going into the 1st bend in 3rd position. By the time they had reached the 295 traps she was a good 10 lengths last! From then on she was chasing fresh air. First thoughts were to retire her after the poor showing but now she might just have a legitimate excuse for her poor showing!

Just read the stipes report.
Rounding the first bend FERAL HOKI (1) and COLDRUM (4) collided with MALCY and JINJA BILLY also being hampered. Shortly after FERAL HOKI was dragged down by GENERAL ACTION (2) and dropped to the rear. MALCY checked off the heels of COLDRUM rounding the final bend. FERAL HOKI was examined by the vet following the
race and cleared of injury.

News

Both Feral Hoki (Minnie) and Feral Poutini (Ben) finished 7th on Friday at Addington. Both dogs missed the break and then ran very green. Obviously disappointing but to be fair these two dogs have very little race experience so hopefully will come on for the run. Both have been galloped this morning (Sunday) and were coming back down the gallop when a Hare decided to run in the field. Not only run it decided to go up and down the gallop fence line with both dogs in keen pursuit. It cut through the gallop fence just in front of Minnie who gave it a nudge.
Mo went up the gallop yesterday and is showing some nice pace so looking forward to getting a nomination soon. Sam is sulking because he is on the lead only and is raring to run. In  his frustration he wrecked his kennel water bowl.

Will try to get runs for them later this week!

Thursday, April 9, 2015

Feral Helen ( Mo) Finishes 2nd.

Mo ( Feral Helen ) ran on Tuesday in a C1 out of trap 2 and finished a 2 1/2 L second to a 17.36 winner. Pleased with her progress and she is certainly enjoying her racing. Hopefully get her nominated for a race next week if any appear on the calendar.

On Friday Minnie ( Feral Hoki ) has her 2nd start in a 295 out of trap 5. Ben ( Feral Poutini ) has his first start and comes out of trap 3.

Today Thursday Ted ( Melman) ran 3rd at a sprint race at the Waikato meeting.

Friday, April 3, 2015

Kennel News (Budget Cola week)!

So Mo ( Feral Helen) finished last yesterday in the Amber Cleaning Services Maiden Sprint Final. Ran well going into the bend but got baulked a little on 3 occasions and that was the end of that. Drawn Trap 2 on Tuesday so we will see if the rails will help her!
Both Minnie and Ben have been galloping well and will be nominated for a start in the next week. Sam is being treating for his injury and seems to be going the right way but early days yet.

Not a lot else to report. Ted (Melman) ran third at the Waikato meeting but again found a very good dog in race posting a smart time!
