Tues 15th The lows of the game.

Maggie has been working hard so thought it was time to look at her ability on the track again. A sprint trial was in order but after a good first sectional 6.07 her second sectional was disappointing with a time of 12.61.Although chasing very gamely unfortunately the time of 18.68 proved she is not up to standard required to make it at the racing game.
SHE IS NOW OFFICIALLY RETIRED AND A LIFE AS A PET BECKONS.We will keep her here but if someone offers to take her and offers a kind home we will consider it.She even got a treat of a Moro bar on the way back from Christchurch and loved it.

Skippy boxed quite well going in to the 1st bend lying 2nd. She could not quite beat the 3 dog into the bend and like a typical puppy checked on the back legs of the dog. The 6 dog had already gone by this time and well on the way to victory scoring in 17.59.Skippy checked wide and lost momentum at the bend and ran on to finished 6th. Typical pups run and hopefully the experience will do her good for future races.

Close encounter!!

Took Maggie to the beach this Saturday with our Labrador, they get on well. Gave her a 200 metre Gallop and then a deserved run around. Unkown to me a big fat seal was in the soft sand about 30 metres from the sea. Maggie spotted it when it made its escape, being a greyhound just our of being broken in it look like a big lure! Luckily for both Maggie and the seal no real blows were struck but Maggie tried. After it made it escape Maggie and the Lab were looking for it in the sea and on the beach...Must remember to check the beach next time i gallop her!

Maggie in trial action..Tue

Maggie in action finishing her 300 handslip trial at Addington.Again can not fault her attitude towards chasing the lure. She has now returned back to the Feral kennels to have a spell and will take it from there after letting her mature for 3 months.Came back to the kennels and decided she had missed her favourite toy and ran around the pen for 10 minutes with it in her mouth!

Skippy 300 metre Trial at Addington...Tue 6th Oct 09

Skippy trialing over 300 metres at Addington on Tuesday. This was her first time out of the 300m Box. Time needs to be guessed! but it was inside grading but not C5 class Yet.Pleasing effort and you can see her keen attitude towards the lure!Sorry about the video quality.

College Causeway All Rounds Irish Derby 09

Latest update.

Both pups have been to Addington for a box trial and both chased with plenty of enthusiasm. No news about times etc but then thats not important at this stage in their education. Malcolm was pleased with the workout anyway!!

Two of the litter went around Manakau and will post news when recieved.

College Causeway wins the Irish Derby and what a run it was at Shelbourne Park in Dublin.....can be seen on youtube, well worth a look!

Latest update

Mixed news about the two Pups. Both have been to the break in Track at Chertsey and to Addington and chased strongly, the bad news is that Maggie seems to be on the slow side and is about nine lengths slower than Skippy and at the moment is doubtful whether she is going to make the grade as a race dog! Disappointing news but these things happen and who knows perhaps with a bit more time back on the coast she might strengthen up. Any way she will have a home here whatever.
Hopefully Skippy will continue to develop and apparently had no problems out of the traps.Time will tell.
Any donations towards the kennel bill will be gratefully recieved!LOL

Update.....Latest news

Pups went off to Supreme kennels at Lowcliffe to be broken in and trained by Malcolm Grant. Early reports are encouraging and the pups have also settled in really well.
They were put behind the Drag lure and both chased extremely well, they were nutcases anyway! Then they were taken to on trip to Addington to get used to the vans and the noise of racing. Watched a few trials and apparently liked what they saw because the next weekend they were slipped behind the lure at Chertsey and chased really well.
Hopefully going the right way but no rush with them being only young. They enjoy the kennel life and apparently lick both Malcolm and Lisa when the feed bowls are collected. Think the trainers getting bored of this affection!!!

Will post some pictures and videos of Greyhound racing at Tralee in Ireland soon after our visit to the Nortern Hemesphere.

Latest news Saturday 20th June

The pups travelled well to Malcolm and Lisa Grants kennels at Lowcliffe in Canterbury. They have been kennelled seperately for the first time and hopefully will quickly settle in to the new surroundings.Hopefully they will be put behind the drag lure and then the arm in the next few months to get a taste of life as a racer.
Kennels here at Kaniere seem very quiet and the beach walks will be missed.

This week!

Both bitches have visited the beach three times for a gallop this week , twice for a free gallop and today,Sunday for a lure workout. Both showed a fair amount of speed on a good surface with Skippy possibly showing a touch more. Both love getting the lure at the end ( plastic bottle in a sock!)and show it off by running up and the beach teasing each other and giving me a headache on how to catch them!
Pictures to follow shortly.

April 4th

Pups were again taken to the beach for a small gallop. Skippy was mad keen for the homemade lure and finished on it.Maggie followed suit but seemed a little more immature with a more playful attitude. Both are physically bulking up and are getting a good back and muscle formation.Jacqui my partner and kennelhand though was distracted from her duties by a pod of dolphins playing just off the shoreline!!!

Saturday, March 28, 2009

Update Sat 28th March.

The pups were again taken to the beach and both galloped along the shore line.Maggie came straight back but Skippy decided to investigate the local paddock, obviously getting a smell of the rabbits!!!! Maggie seems a little more immature in her attitude compared to Skippy but both are very keen on any movement. Both dogs came back to the kennel and ate up well.
