Greyhound kennels established on the West Coast of NZ. The kennel name comes from the delightful description Helen Clark used when talking about West Coasters in 2000. The open spaces and the beaches were a top place to rear pups up until racing age. Now Based close to Oxford Canterbury on 4 hectares. We now breed and train as well as rear pups. Sick Sam
Had to rush Sam to the Vets on Saturday morning. Has been sore for 3 days since coursing the Hare. Eating well but very sore on his back but no muscle loss. Friday he seemed to be very lethargic and back was dropping off him. Thought it was acidosis but didnt really add up. Any way the vet diagnosed a type of acidosis (called it something else)which drops the muscles away. Vet gave him a shot of a Steroid and pain killers and now Sam is kenneled up at home being a model patient and eating heaps. Plenty of fatty meat to help build his back up and plenty of rest. Will be not in work for at least three months but being 35KG so estimated 38KG before his illness there is no rush to get him to the track! Already today he is much more himself so lets hope he is going to be alright.
