Greyhound kennels established on the West Coast of NZ. The kennel name comes from the delightful description Helen Clark used when talking about West Coasters in 2000. The open spaces and the beaches were a top place to rear pups up until racing age. Now Based close to Oxford Canterbury on 4 hectares. We now breed and train as well as rear pups. Kennel News
The pups are doing great but they are not going to be massive boned pups. They are very athletic and love to gallop. They are the sort that are never still! Very alert i know when there is a Hare in the paddock because they bark the place down! They chase anything that moves even the smallest of birds especially when out in the big paddock.
The retired dogs are well and so far Ridgy and George have had a Hare and a Possum, the possum decided to visit their pen, not a wise move!
Lizzie has settled in well but could do with her voice box removing! She has just come into season so if the days are good (vets open over xmas/new year) she will use a straw from Elite State.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYBODY AND A HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR

Pups 2nd Hunt!
3 Hares decided to have a run in the paddock today, could not resist letting the pups out to have a hunt at them. Hares were hiding in the grass but the pups soon put one up and gave it a good hunt for about 200 metres until the Hare headed for safety. Eva came wondering back to me and put another one up so off she went until it found cover! The pups certainly like the chase and need no prompting!
Both coming on well reckon the dog pup weighs in at 26Kg and the bitch at 22Kg, and growing tall with it.

The Hunt!
Spotted out of the window a Big Hare in the big paddock. Thought if only! Well the Hare could not be seen anymore but i thought i would take the pups in anyway. Off we go heading towards where i had seen him, pups a few metres behind off the lead as always and wooshh the Hare gets up and runs. Off the pups went chasing him luckily the Hare had got a 30 metre start but fair play to the pups they got within 10 metres of him before he dived through the deer netting in to the adjoining paddock. The pups were keen to follow but luckily could not get through. They come back very alert to say the least! NEXT TIME?

Amegos first win.
Great to see The big boy led from trap rise to pull away from the field to win in 22.80 for the 390 trip at Southland today. He certainly showed his ability once he hit the front and paying $8 at the TAB. Shame i decided not to back him for his own sake!

Pups update.
The two new pups have settled in well and are full of life. Do they like their food or what! Let out in to the big paddock the dog took off and loved the room and for a young pup he showed a nice style of running. The bitch is a little less coordinated but will come good.
Photos to come once it stops raining!

The next day
The day after they chased the hare across the paddock the dogs nearly ripped my arms off when we stepped through the gate into the field. George in particular thrashed around like a mad dog. Once they were let off their leads they sprinted across the paddock to the part of the field they last saw/smelled the hare then ran up and down the fence line. Once bored with that they retraced the path they had followed the hare. George spotted Tessa, the old Labrador, across the other side and took off once again like a dog on a mission followed by the others. They are on high alert. Not a good paddock to graze in if you are hare.

Gutted as George fights (Marring)
STEWARDS REPORT
FERAL FOX was then observed by the Steward to turn its head outwards and make contact with GRANT A DOLLAR with an open mouth. FERAL FOX was charged under Rule 80.1.a with marring the running of another greyhound. Trainer MM Grant admitted the charge and the dog was suspended for 28 days and required to complete a Satisfactory Trial. Mr Grant advised that the dog would be retired from racing.
It was extremely disappointing to see George turn his head and Fight Grant a Dollar very aggressively when he was in the lead.Apologies to the connection of that dog. Sorry for Malcolm and Lisa who have put in heaps of effort in with the dog. George now will come home and find a seat on the settee If i let him!!!

Recent News
The move to a new place in Oxford went well but poor old Ridgy had to have a temporary kennel made from 4 Hay Bales and corrugated iron roofing!! Luckily a new Kennel has now been made so she is happy and enjoying the 2 acre field she gallops in daily with the other retirees!
Still need to do the new runs but eh Rome wasnt built in a day!
On the track George (Feral Fox)has come back from a rest/spell and is now showing some real pace and his last two efforts have resulted in a 3rd at Otago and a 2nd at Southland. Lets hope his next is a win!
The big Fellow Amigo has pleased Malcolm and showed him a bit of ability so he is now in cotton wool until further notice!
New Kennel number is 03 3106912

Feral Greyhound kennels have moved.
We are no longer situated on the West Coast and have now moved to Oxford in North Canterbury. We are now situated on a 4 hectare block and are in the process of building kennels. Hopefully the runs and kennels will be ready in the next couple of months. It was hard to leave the Coast and the especially the wild open beach which was such a great gallop for the pups.
Hopefully the move will mean more chance of racing a few once everything is complete or even rearing a few more!
The big lad chased the drag lure first time and was a natural so lets hope he now shows the pace required. He left weighing 38 kilos so he will be a heavy dog when racing!
Home address is now
535 Depot Road
Rd 1
Oxford.
All donations to help pay the mortgage accepted!!!!
